Mid-century Modern Dresser Redo

Last month I refinished my 16th piece of furniture (this is quickly becoming more than a hobby). It was this steal of a deal I found on Craigslist for only $45 including delivery to my house! It's a vintage Bassett dresser from the mid-century modern era that's oh so chic right now.

I spent about a week painting this dresser, I know it's a shame to paint beautifully stained wood. And I know to some people I devalued this original piece. But this dresser was really well built and so I want to keep it in my home for a long long time. Most all the furniture in my home is painted because I do not go for the look of stained wood. This piece needed a redo if it could find a place in my home.

I sanded down the glossy surface of the dresser as best I could to get started. Then I primed and painted two coats of enamel (heavy duty) paint. I only snapped a picture of the priming process because I wanted this dresser's reveal to be shock and awe. If you want to know the detailed process by which I paint furniture, please click my comprehensive photo tutorial on my blog: http://www.welcome-to-the-woods.com/how-to-paint-furniture-in-4-steps/

To achieve the finish I wanted with this piece, I made sure to sand lightly between each layer of paint so the job would be ultra smooth. I also used a mini roller for application and a paint brush only for the crevices. The three drawers on the top part of the dresser got some detailing as I added espresso stain to the wood crisscross design.
So are you ready for the big reveal!?

Wowza! Doesn't that ivory make the dresser look so modern and fresh!? And I love how adding the stain to the wood detail on the top three drawers brought dimension and interest to the piece, also helping to tie in with the drawer hardware.

Just look at that before and after transformation! I believe in the power of paint.
