How to Fake A Chandelier

We are halfway through September already, which means it's time for another DIY challenge! Each month a group of my blogging friends and I team up and make something out of 1 common item from the Home Depot. (We are not associated with Home Depot, we just love it!).

This month's chosen item is a hose repair clamp. For my project, I decided to make a light cover. The hose clamp came with notches halfway around it. I drilled holes using a very small drill bit the rest of the way around it. I think they actually sell them with the notches going all the way around, but when I picked mine up I wasn't sure what I was going to make with it yet.

I have been wanting a chandelier in my closet forever. Since my husband really couldn't understand the need for a chandelier in a closet, I could't completely replace my existing light with a new chandelier so I decided to fake one instead! This is the light I used to have in my closet. Pretty sad.

I picked up several feet of crystal strands and used the existing O rings on them to hook through the holes in my clamp.

I made each strand slightly larger than the last to get a graduated effect all the way around. I then added teardrop shaped crystals to the bottom of each strand for added interest. The longest strand measures 11.5".

I removed the old light cover and hung this one in it's place, using ceiling hooks! Standing in the closet looking up, you cannot even see them. So if you don't have an electrician at your disposal, this is one way to get the look of a chandelier!
