Plastic Tub to Faux Vintage Tin

Would you believe this faux vintage tin started out as a yellow plastic corn starch container? I’ve always loved the shape of the Kingsford Corn Starch tub. The square shape is ideal for upcycling it into something else but that bright yellow plastic is hard to get past.

Here’s how I transformed it into a faux vintage tin.

Wash your plastic container and dry thoroughly. Give it a few coats of silver metallic spray paint. I used Krylon Hammered Metal in Silver but it doesn’t have to be hammered metal. Once the tub is completely covered in spray paint and dry, give it an aged look with some craft paint. I dry brushed on a mixture of silver, black and dark brown.

You can find vintage labels online or through a source such as The Graphics Fairy. Use decoupage or glue to adhere your labels.

And there you have it. A completely transformed plastic bin to a cute vintage tin that you could use for pencils, pens, paint brushes or a variety of other things. Find more details on my blog using the URL below.
