DIY Copper and Burlap Wall Art

I've been trying to figure out some inexpensive wall art for an odd wall in our guest room for a while now. After a few failed efforts, I'm THRILLED to report that I think I finally found The One. It all started when I was tasked to create a project using fabric for our which I participate in along with some bloggy friends. I immediately thought of these burlap sacks I'd picked up at a thrift store for a song (I'm pretty sure that song would be "Take Me Home Tonight" by Eddie Money. Just sayin'. ). And then I remembered the following materials, which I'd also purchased previously for another project that never happened...

1/2" Copper piping (which I successfully got home without impaling a single person. Womanpower.), corresponding tube straps and a pipe cutter. So, I haphazardly tacked one of my burlap guys to the wall to see if he was right for the space...

And he was. So, I measured the width of my sack, then cut my pipe 6 inches longer to allow for 3 inches of excess on either side.

Next, I simply mended a hole in the back of the sack where the coffee bean contents had been previously emptied and then I stitched the sack to my pipe using tan thread...

I am not a seamstress, so I'll just say this... If I can do this project, ANYONE can. Then, I anchored it to the wall with the tube straps (making sure it was level)...

Which left this...

I opted to keep the wrinkles in the burlap to add some texture and a bit of a rustic touch. And I have to say that I LOVE it!!! It fits the space so well and is an awesome contrast with the sleeker elements in the rest of the room. This project took under an hour and the price breakdown is approximately as follows: $5 - Burlap sack, $10 - 1/2' copper pipe (though I still have about 7 feet left since I purchased the 10" length), $2 - tube straps (still have 8 left), $7 - Pipe cutter (but now I have one for other projects) - Total = $24. You could EASILY complete this project for much less if you chose the shorter pipe length, purchased the tube straps individually, and already have a pipe cutter.
